Hi all,

because of terminating the metar service on noaa.gov the module MetarInformation is not working at the moment. I'm working on a solution.

NOAA has an XML service .... I use it for something NON-svxlink

I use this script to fetch it:

#!/bin/bash
TEMPLATE=/home/roschews/weather.xsl
TXTFILE=/tmp/speech-wx.txt
WAVFILE=/tmp/speech-wx.wav

rm -f /tmp/speech-wx.txt
/usr/bin/wget -q -O - $URL | xsltproc $TEMPLATE - 2> /dev/null > $TXTFILE
/usr/bin/text2wave -o $WAVFILE -scale 1.5 -F 8000 $TXTFILE

And this stylesheet to decode it:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<stylesheet version="1.0"
        <output method="text"/>
        <template match="/">
                <text>Current conditions are </text>
                <value-of select="current_observation/weather"/>
                <text>. The temerature is </text>
                <value-of select="current_observation/temp_f"/>
                <text> degrees Fahrenheit. The relative humidity is </text>
                <value-of select="current_observation/relative_humidity"/>
                <text> percent. Wind speed is </text>
                <value-of select="current_observation/wind_mph"/>
                <text> miles per hour from the </text>
                <value-of select="current_observation/wind_dir"/>
                <text>. The barometric pressure is </text>
                <value-of select="current_observation/pressure_in"/>
                <text> inches.
</text>
        </template>
</stylesheet>

Re: METAR

Adi Bier-3

Hi,

thank's for the information, I've almost finished my changes in SvxLink. The xml-service offers more ways and maybe make some things easier to handle. But I feel that the new service is more unreliable than the old one. Last hours I couldn't have access to the web site sometimes :(

Hm, there were a discussion a couple of weeks ago about the METAR-info. Since weather.noaa.gov has finished it's service
MetarInfo had been switched to a xml service provided by aviationweather.com (AWC). It's available in
my metarinfo_changed_service branch @ github.com/dl1hrc. I'm not sure if you link above will be available next time.
Anyway, I feel it could be a good idea to make the link configurable for the sysops. Maybe you can create
your own MetarInfo using your weather station this way :)
I think I will extend my branch with this option.

Hi Arnaud,

I've updated my branch, if you are interested in testing it:

git clone https://github.com/dl1hrc/svxlink.git
cd svxlink
git checkout metarinfo_changed_service
mkdir build
cd build

an so on...

Important: Please read the manpage for new params!
