NOAA has an XML service .... I use it for something NON-svxlink

Example: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/data/current_obs/KABE.xml

I use this script to fetch it:

*#!/bin/bash*
*URL=http://www.nws.noaa.gov/data/current_obs/KABE.xml
<http://www.nws.noaa.gov/data/current_obs/KABE.xml>*
*TEMPLATE=/home/roschews/weather.xsl*
*TXTFILE=/tmp/speech-wx.txt*
*WAVFILE=/tmp/speech-wx.wav*

*rm -f /tmp/speech-wx.txt*
*/usr/bin/wget -q -O - $URL | xsltproc $TEMPLATE - 2> /dev/null > $TXTFILE*
*/usr/bin/text2wave -o $WAVFILE -scale 1.5 -F 8000 $TXTFILE*

And this stylesheet to decode it:
*<?xml version="1.0"?>*
*<stylesheet version="1.0"*
*        xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform
<http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform>">*
*        <output method="text"/>*
*        <template match="/">*
*                <text>Current conditions are </text>*
*                <value-of select="current_observation/weather"/>*
*                <text>. The temerature is </text>*
*                <value-of select="current_observation/temp_f"/>*
* <text> degrees Fahrenheit. The relative humidity is
</text>*
*                <value-of select="current_observation/relative_humidity"/>*
*                <text> percent. Wind speed is </text>*
*                <value-of select="current_observation/wind_mph"/>*
* <text> miles per hour from the </text>*
*                <value-of select="current_observation/wind_dir"/>*
*                <text>. The barometric pressure is </text>*
*                <value-of select="current_observation/pressure_in"/>*
*                <text> inches.
</text>*
*        </template>*
*</stylesheet>*

Hi Frank,

thanks for the info. I'm not sure that this service (nws.noaa.gov) will
provide the metar's in the future??? As far as I know they want to have
all requests redirected to the new xml-api @ aviationweather? Does
anybody have further information?

Will do some tests next days with my xml-changes @ aviationweather.com
and I'm sure to have a solution for this :)
